Character Analysis for Quantico: Part One

I don’t know how many of you watch Quantico or have in the past. I have yet to catch up on the third and final season. I ignored the hype when it first came out about three years ago. Recently, I was on Netflix and it popped up as a suggested show and I thought –why not?! That’s how I was drawn in….
First off, this show is not a real depiction of the FBI or CIA but there’s definitely plenty of drama. If you haven’t seen the show, don’t worry. There aren’t a lot of spoilers in this post because I’m trying to focus on debunking their results of the Myers Briggs (which they featured in one of the episodes during season one) for certain characters.
So let’s get started! I’m not going to go through all the characters, just some of the main ones….
Let’s start off with Alex since the show revolves around her character as the heroine. I think it’s great they chose Priyanka Chopra to play the main character, she’s already a distraction all by herself! The show tries to paint Alex as an ENFP, “The Champion”, as they exclaimed in episode 13, season one when the trainees were identifying each other’s personalities. Alex can be “emotional and hasty”, as they endearingly refer to her character throughout the show. She doesn’t like to follow instructions, which often gets her in trouble; and she follows her gut. She is definitely an intuitor, hands down. She is also somewhat of a perceiver and very extroverted but in the real FBI and CIA they wouldn’t hire perceivers – according to a writer who researched the FBI stated, “everyone here is type A personality”. The show likes to highlight Alex’s internal struggle when she is forced to make a decision she opposes or the risk of harming someone else even if she knows it’s “necessary for the mission”. Well hello! This is the whole purpose of the FBI and CIA – to eliminate threats and prevent destruction (unless you believe in conspiracy theories and disagree; hey no judgment!) In any case I think they try to portray Alex’s character as a feeler type, basing her decisions on emotions. However it really comes from her gut, which makes it seem like it’s an emotional decision but it is actually coming from her belief that she knows the right answer and relies on her personal intuition, even if it is not correct. I won’t argue that she has some characteristics from the ENFP profile but I’m not sold on the idea that she is a “Champion”, as they want us to believe. She can be calculated and extremely clever, she’s also very stubborn which is more indicative of an ENTP than an ENFP.
If I were forced at gunpoint to chose one, I would say she’s more of a dual personality. In addition I highly doubt the FBI or CIA would hire her as an agent as they don’t seem to value “FP” personalities. Don’t take my word for it. Read about it yourself from a former agent – https://www.indiaabroad.com/the-real-girl-from-quantico/article_e5583e33-1ee2-5905-a8a4-b226d8464993.html
Ryan, her on and off partner ( both work and personal) wasn’t around when they were doing the personality assessments. However Ryan likes to follow orders and asks minimal questions. He is a good listener and loves to be the duty fulfiller. This makes him ripe for an ISTJ. His weakness really is Alex and I must complain about how an ISTJ and ENFP (or ENTP) would have a difficult time dating an ISTJ and vice versa…. But oh, perhaps that’s why they have so much conflict – it makes the show more riveting, right?! Whatever….
In Part Two I’ll address more of the main characters.
