ST Types
The four types: ISTJ; ESTJ; ISTP; ESTP
Sensor-Thinkers are bottom-line people. They don’t care to study longitudinal research because they want results they can use now. They may glance at the summary to see if there are any helpful points but their impatience for efficiency often leads them to block out the bigger picture and focus on the smaller details. They are your CFO’s and Accountants. They love numbers and mathematical equations because in their minds, numbers do not lie. They love systems and methods. Most church doctrines were most likely created by ST’s.
Babies and toddlers are very literal; if they cannot see an object when it’s hidden they think it’s gone. Of course as we mature, we understand concrete operational from Piaget’s theory. Sensors revel in approaching subjects as black and white, grey does not exist in their book. The higher the sensing preference, the more challenging it will be for them to see things figuratively.
ST’s believe in order for places and organizations to run smoothly, rules and regulations need to be strictly enforced. Parents who are ST’s expect their children to follow obediently, no questions or thoughts allowed. This typically continues even though their children are adults. The child, now an adult may have a challenging time with their parents if they have not learned how to respect boundaries and allow others to have the freedom to make their own decisions. SF’s can have this problem too because it is a sensing function but ST’s are typically more rigid in their approach if it’s paired with the judging preference.
ST’s help society function by running on schedules and keeping set regimens. It can be very helpful for some business structures like transportation and hospitals but for other places it can actually create more problems. For example – schools. Studies show that students would function better if they did not go early in the morning yet we continue to force millions of adolescents to get up early to attend school.
Sensors take information at face value and literally. If it’s not literal they have to take more time to grasp abstract concepts but that doesn’t mean that they are unable to understand the information, they simply do not prefer theories and concepts. ST’s are not comfortable with ambiguity and they will block it out at all costs.
