ISTP

(I) Introverted (S) Sensor (T) Thinker (P) Perceiver

Very Strong to Strong:

  • Very quiet and private
  • Believes in concrete morals and values that are not subject to interpretation
  • Closest friends tend to have the same beliefs; has difficulty keeping close relationships with others who don’t believe the same way
  • Enjoys helping others in a tangible way – i.e. fixing a friend’s car, giving money to help out a family member, etc.
  • Prefers for traditions to be kept
  • Generally dislikes rigid structure
  • Takes commitments seriously even if they don’t want to always follow-through
  • Believes that following rules and regulations are necessary but the same standard does not always apply to them – they don’t like being told what to do
  • Bases decisions off of logic and facts – doesn’t like it when others are “too emotional”
  • Not in touch with their emotions and would prefer for emotions to be nonexistent
  • Enjoys reading non-fiction over fiction books
  • Prefers the concrete sciences and math such as physics and chemistry; English literature and philosophy are not usually appealing.
  • Not a huge desire to connect to other people; least likely to attend a holiday party at work
  • Not prone to taking things personally

Moderate:

  • Quiet and private
  • Believes in concrete morals and values that are not really subject to interpretation but does not feel the need to make everyone else follow them
  • Open to suggestions but may not always try them
  • Can pay attention to details when it comes to sensory details and observations
  • Prefers loose amount of structure – looks more of a blue-print than a hard core schedule
  • Decisions should be based off of logic and facts – dislikes highly emotional people (even if they have a higher “F” presence)
  • Displays more incongruent behavior traits, esp. depending on the varying preference strengths
  • Lack of desire to connect with other people but will make more of an effort if they’re not high introverts
  • Enjoys having fun and not taking themselves too seriously
  • Take commitments seriously even if they don’t want to always follow-through

Dual (At least one or more preferences that fall in the middle)

The ISTP/INTP will not pay as much attention to sensory details and will be more comfortable with ambiguity. They are more likely to have a wider range of interests and hobbies than a strong or moderate ISTP. They are also more likely to be a flip-flopper if they haven’t managed to take a mature approach to their differences.

An ISTP/ISFP combination is not highly likely; however if an individual displays a more equal preference for the T and F then they’ll come across as more caring and giving. ISFP’s are usually very altruistic beings and enjoy helping others even if they don’t always want to, unlike an ISTP who is more reserved with their generosity. This pair will find it easier to connect emotionally with others and not only approach problems from a logical standpoint.
